One of my favorite YouTubers is a Singaporean entrepreneur named JianHao Tan, whose videos I have been watching for many years now. Tan’s creative edge stems from his deep understanding of global perspectives, a product of his unique upbringing across Singapore, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I, by contrast, have lived my entire life in the bay area, and have not had much exposure to different ways of life. That’s why the biggest thing I hope to get out of this trip, and one of the main reason I wanted to go to Panama in the first place, is to gain a more nuanced worldview and to develop a deeper understanding of global perspectives. I feel like that is important on many levels because when you understand how other cultures and communities think and “flow” it makes you more adaptable to diverse workplaces, more resonant with global audiences, and at the very least, a more compassionate person.
