Absolutely g.o.a.t.-ed

We started off day 3 at 5:30 with a quick breakfast from our lovely cooks keeping us full and happy before we departed for Finca El Espinal, a local goat farm and stand. This is one of the country’s only farms that does every step of the process: raising the goats, milking them, producing goat milk products, and selling them. Hugo, the owner of the farm and new friend in Panama, taught us every step of the process, starting with feeding the baby goats, to breeding the different breeds, and planting their food. After planting some food for the goats, we ended off the trip with enjoying some of their own goat milk ice cream!

After arriving back at the hotel, we jumped right into our Culture and Safety Seminar detailing rules for our stay, and ate rice, beef stew, and fried plantains for lunch. Following our meal, Paco told us stories to help us understand the concept of sustainability, including one of Global Glimpse’s first projects, as well as introducing us to what we will be working on for our CAP (Community Action Project).

We closed out the day by walking into the city to have our second ice cream of the day, and talking to locals at Dolce & Saladito, a nearby ice cream shop. It was absolutely GOATED, and we would have gone for ice cream round 3 after dinner if it wasn’t too late.

As we went through the day, the question we all considered was, “What would a daily routine look like for members of the community, and how does it compare to our own daily life?” We noticed that much of our schedules were similar however the work itself was different. It was unique to see the production of goat products followed through the growing of the goats food all the way to the ice cream we ate, and participate in the process. This differs to the United States where much of our production is broken apart, and much of it is done internationally.

Estes LDD: Something that has surprised me the most about this trip is how quickly we all started to connect and have fun together. I expected that we would only start having fun as a group by the end of the trip, but in reality, it seemed like we were already friends by the time we arrived in Las Tablas. My favorite parts of the day today were swimming with the group, playing some night volleyball, and learning how to play Dominoes. I would also like to shout out Paco for helping us ask questions in Spanish, and translating the answers back to English, as well as his unlimited collection of stories about past trips, the country we are staying in, and his past.

Bella LDD: To close out the day, I’d like to thank every welcoming and helpful person on this trip so far. Paco has been a huge help translating and keeping us entertained with funny stories. Elke has been mothering me into eating full meals throughout the day, and all the GG leaders have been very good teachers. Overall every individual person has become a friend in only a short amount of time and I am ready to pass LDD to the next leaders and get a good sleep.

Thank you for following along with our trip! We hope you check out what we do tomorrow, and feel free to comment!
