Cap Day 2

CAP day 2

Today, as leaders (Camilla and Vanessa), we woke everyone up at 7 am sharp. Then at 8 am, we gathered for breakfast: cereal, pineapple, watermelon, eggs, sausage, and toast. After making sure everyone had enough to eat, we headed out at 8:45 am to drive to our CAP location (El Yaque). When we arrived around 9 am, we got straight to work. Due to the rain last night, our stairs got a little messed up, so we started by cleaning them up. We separated into different groups to make more stairs, pickaxe crews, and shovel crews. We dug up sand farther up the trail, then carried it back in buckets to the work spot. After that, we mixed the sand with water for the river and the cement for the ditch. When we finished, we scooped the wet cement into buckets and create a chain to carry the buckets up the stairs to the ditch.

At 12 pm, our morning work was done, and we came back to La Salle for lunch. For lunch, we had salad, chicken wings, Dominican lasagna, rice, and beans. Once everyone was done with lunch, we left at 1:45 pm to head back for the CAP. We arrived at the CAP and got right back to work. We completed day 2 of the CAP, shorter due to rain, but we were tired anyway. We got back to La Salle, and everyone cleaned themselves up before dinner.

For dinner we had salad, Dominican pasta, rice, and fried yuca. During dinner, we announced the new leaders (Sam and Rachel). After dinner, we hung around, reading, coloring, playing Mafia and Imposter, waiting for our nightly meeting.

What a group of inspiring glimpsers! I’m proud to see my Wavy as one of them. It’s been such fun to hear from the daily leaders about their food, fun, & determination to contribute to the community in DR. Can’t wait to see the final product of the stairs & their pride. Enjoy the rest of the time there, & a shoutout of love to Wavy 💖
