Jaslin and Jayden as today’s LDD’s

Hey guys, it’s Jaslin and Jayden as today’s LDD’s! (Check out our beautiful agenda board that I am so proud of!)

Today started as a typical morning, we woke up at 7am and had at breakfast at our homebase, La Salle, at 8am. From there, we hopped on a bus to Sonidos del Yaque, a community between Jarabacoa and Manaboa. We traveled through steep hills, long staircases, and rocky roads where we were able to meet Dona Esperanza. She built a foundation for her community that began from limited resources and various challenges to a lively, vibrant town filled with many happy families. Here’s our experiences:

Jaslin:

(Jaslin) During my experience, we were split into four groups so that we could help the community with chores. My group and I had to clear the pathway, by creating an “assembly line” along the staircase and passing along rocks that were on the trail. As this was a very tedious task, it taught me a lot about teamwork because we had to work together to ultimately get the rocks from the bottom of the steps to the very top. Without each other, the work would’ve been 10 times harder, but as a team we not only helped each other, but also the community. Another goal we were trying to achieve, was creating this assembly line so that the next Global Glimpse group can use the rocks to create borders and walls throughout the community. Overall, this day taught me many things about myself and the amazing experience I have had on this trip.

Jayden:

(Jayden) For my experience I was in the group that went and helped sweep the paths for the town. We were a group of five, at first I was the person who held the dustpan and went around helping the sweepers get the dirt and leaves away, I then grabbed a broom a helped with the sweeping. While we were working, a few of the older women in the community came out and joined us during this time they were telling us different things, smiling and enjoying the day. This was a very rewarding time because on a normal day they have to use their free time that could take hours, but today they had the 5 of us helping along with them and we were able to finish the task within an hour. They seemed pleased to have our help and we were all more then welcome and happy to give it.

Closing:
Lastly, the last group painted the houses of the locals. After all the work was finished, we had gone down to the river where we bonded each other and some of the kids. It had taught us the importance of community and how much of an impact it makes to help others. Throughout the whole day, the community had shown as so much love and welcomed us as family. We will continue to carry on the ideas that Esperanza had taught us today about the power of team work.

Yours truly,

Jayden and Jaslin
