¡Vamos a Turrialba!

Hi, Glimpsers and families,

My name is Samantha Nguyen (she/ella), and I’ll be one of the Global Glimpse Leaders traveling with you to Turrialba, Costa Rica! I’ve been teaching high school science in the Bay Area for 7 years and have taught Biology, Environmental Science, and Research Methods. This will be my third time traveling as a GG Leader; I went to Riobamba, Ecuador in 2022 and to Constanza, Dominican Republic last summer – both were just AMAZING. Not only was I able to learn so much about the culture and people, I also learned a lot about myself as a person, leader, and traveler. I’m really excited to travel with you all to Costa Rica. Fun fact: I went on a school trip to Costa Rica back in 2010 when I was in high school, and it was one of the best and most formative experiences I had in high school – so I can’t wait for you to have your own travel experience with Global Glimpse.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many places: everywhere from North America (Canada, Mexico, several US states), Asia (Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore), and Europe (Austria, Spain, Germany). In fact, I will just be returning from a month-long trip to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand a few days before our departure to Costa Rica, so I’m really hoping I’m over the jet lag by then…

Aside from being a high school teacher, I am a professional Lindy Hop dancer who teaches, performs, and competes in swing dancing all over the world (that’s what I was doing in Asia this summer!). I also own over 100 board games (I’ll bring some for us to play during our downtime in the evening!) and enjoy experimenting with new recipes in my air fryer and Instant Pot. I have recently been baking a lot – especially macarons. You can also catch me binge-watching crime shows on Netflix, stamping my nails with fun designs, or hiking outdoors with friends.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you and supporting you through this amazing, life-changing experience! See you on July 18th!!!

Big love,

Sam
