Feliz Sabado!

This is Mayra and Nicolaus writing to you from the DR! We are so excited to share with you guys the very eventful day we had!

Today we had community day where we spent our time in Sonidos del Yaque from 9am – 4pm. We started our morning bright and early at 6am, which caused some of our Glimpsers to be more tired than usual, but we were still able to enjoy our trip! We had some yummy toast, eggs, sausage, and watermelon for breakfast alongside their choice of juice which was strawberry or orange. Then we left for the community around 8:30 to get there at 9 where we brought our essentials, sunscreen, bug spray, and swimsuits! We spent the rest of the morning helping the locals with their daily chores, then going to eat lunch with them at 12pm, but not before having to walk down a steep, long mountain. We had some sancocho soup, cayote, white rice, and a green salad!  After we ate, we took another trip further down the mountain to the Yaque River where some glimpsers dipped their legs in the water to cool down.

After that fun experience, we took our leave from the community, satisfied that our assistance was greatly appreciated. In addition, the self-reflection helped us have a recap of the day and gave us a chance to ask each other about our trip experience. Then we were able to start on our CAP project planning for next week where we will be helping another community fix their water system. After our meetings, we had yet another delicious dinner that was at 7 pm. We had some delicious mashed potatoes, chicken, and watermelon alongside our choice of juice. After dinner, we had a nightly meeting where we shared our highlights of the day and passed on LDD to Kaitlyn and Faith!
