Day 7 – Local Business Day

Hello Everyone,

This is Fernando and Cupree. Our theme today was local business. We woke up bright and early to ensure no one was late for the day. They claimed I (Fernando) was “banging” on the door too hard, and that they heard it coming from down the hall. Jori said she thought the feds were coming to get her. Some glimpsers got up extra early to try to go to the local gym, however they were closed. We then realized that time works out differently in other countries. Haha.

After finally gathering everyone, we announced the agenda for the day and started a mid-trip health check-in. It consisted of physical and mental health questions so our leaders could know more about how we were doing to support us in the day. We then had our breakfast which was steak, eggs, empanadas, and tortillas. Then we gathered everyone to go to La Paulina Cafe. Once we arrived at the local bakery, Paulina, the owner of the 20-year-old bakery gave us a tour of her bakery, and she gave us some ice cream, samples, some fresh bread, and some of her specialty cinnamon bread pudding called masmallenas (fill me more). She explained how baking had been passed through her family, how an exchange program to the US grew her own perspective, and how she built her own business expanding partnerships in the broader community. She also shared how Panamanian values shape her daily work.  After the tour, we moved on to the next activity which was interviewing local business owners on a team scavenger hunt for different types of businesses to learn how foreign businesses impact local businesses. After lunch, we made posters of our findings and everyone presented our newly found info. There were skits, games, and role-plays to help us learn and engage with the information. After this was free time where some Glimpsers rested, got Domino’s pizza, or went to go shopping. Then we had dinner (tacos), and then our nightly meeting introducing the next leaders of the day, Mikey and Louie.

We want to give special shout-outs to Cupree Howard Sr. Happy Birthday Pops, I love you and hope you enjoyed your day. Thanks to everyone who has been checking like my friends and my former teacher Mr Loffey. And Shout out to my mom Virginia for showing me so much big love!.
