Day 6: Global Business/Working as a Local Day

What’s good? Big B and Chuck here! Today was our day to lead the group, and it started a little sleepy to be fully honest. The beautiful thing was that, as a group, we bounced back! We got up decently early for some amazing breakfast (it was “gas” by the way…which is a good thing!), had our pre-field trip talk, and then hit the road on the Jungle Bus TM. After taking a ride around the city, we found our way to the first business: a coffee plantation owned by our BOY Miguel Serafin. There, we picked a large amount of weeds from the growing coffee plants (Brandon says his group did the better work but like…I don’t necessarily know about that. Team Odd Squad all the way!) Big love out there to Miguel for letting us help him with the work. Many hands make quicker work after all, right?

After a laborious couple of hours, we came back to the accommodation for a quick lunch (the beans, rice, and fried chicken were IT!) Like we said though, it was quick since not too long after, we strolled on down to one of the places that Serafin’s plantation fed out to. It was a beautiful coffee shop based on the steps of the factory that refined the berries that coffee beans (which are SEEDS, hilariously) come from. Our tour guide, Melvin, did a wonderful job of showing us all that the Ramirez family business had to offer! We got to see the berry trees themselves, taste the RAW BERRIES which were quite delectable, enjoy a tour of inside the factory, tried some ROASTED seeds, saw how they refined and organized them, and finally drank some of the final product. It was delicious!

Once we got home, we enjoyed some hot dogs and fries (Charles ate wayyyyy too many papas fritas-) for dinner after getting to know each better with a bonding activity. Really fun day over all, and we were glad to pass the torch on to Ben and Jackson. Hope you guys enjoyed the summary after a long day’s wait. See you here tomorrow!
