Today, we had the amazing opportunity to be the leaders of the day! Our focus was Aid & Development so after a delicious breakfast of French toast, ham, eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola, cornflakes, and juice, all students participated in speed (friend) dating to get to know each other better and recognize that despite our different backgrounds, we have so many similarities. During CAP seminars 1 & 2, we learned that we will be painting the gym floors and the ceilings of the ranchos at Aquiares Primary School. In preparation for our community action project students split into three groups to brainstorm the materials and steps we need to fulfill our goals. We will begin our project next week!
After some downtime full of card games, hammock time, and snacking, everyone came together in the dining room for lunch. The chefs prepared arroz con carne (or vegetables), frijoles, salad, fruit punch, and blackberry juice! It was so filling and yummy!
Right after lunch we had an hour and a half of free time where small groups went down to the mini market, had water gun fights, hung out, and relaxed. At 2 pm our guest speaker came; Roderigo Mendez an environmental researcher and presenter. During his presentation, we learned about sustainable development and the UN’s Sustainability goals. After that we played a long hard round of Simon Says or actually Tyan Says where we had 5 winners in the end: Prim, Sofia, Mieko, Omoeghie, and Monica. Then we started our appreciation letters seminar where we learned how to write thank you letters to the supporters of Global Glimpse, and we wrote our first drafts. After everyone finished writing, we had free time until dinner where we had spaghetti with salsa con carne o salsa con vegetables, garlic bread, and fresh passion fruit juice. Tyan and Jeske read the comments on the blog and we had our nightly meeting where we handed off the LDD torch off to the next LDDs Nova and Amie who finished up the nightly meeting. Tonight we had a movie night where we watched Maze Runner and ate brownies and popcorn, Memo made some “Smokey” flavored popcorn. It was a pretty chill and indoorsy day but everyone was very respectful and nice all day! We are signing off as LDDs we miss you all and will see you soon!!!
