Day 4: Aid and Development

Greetings friends and families!!!

We started off the day at 7:00 am, then ate a breakfast of eggs, toast, and cheese with our drink options being hot chocolate and pineapple juice at 8:00 am. Then we began our morning meeting where we discussed our first activity of the day, which was going to the Escuela de Sordos Mudos. At the school, we learned about its founding and how it benefits the community. We learned about the struggles that the principal faced when first founding the school and how it has changed over time. Then we returned to the accommodation where we had a very fulfilling lunch.

After lunch, we had another seminar to discuss our community action project. We talked about the importance of understanding the community’s needs and wants as well as respecting them. We learned who the community organizer is and what it is that we will assisting the community with during our CAP delivery days. We learned from one of the elders, who is turning 90 years old, that he has not had running water in his home for his entire life. Because of this issue, we will be helping further develop existing foundations for an aqueduct that will have the potential to benefit at least 40 households. We toured the site where we would be working, and then eagerly asked the community organizer questions relating to the work and history of the neighborhood. We were met with lots of hospitality and were even offered homemade coffee as a thank-you. A few of us also bonded by playing a game which we have titled the “chicken game.” We said our goodbyes and headed back to the accommodations where we enjoyed 2 hours of relaxing free time.

We had a delicious dinner of garlic noodles, ground beef, garlic bread, fries, and salad, and rounded it out with some fruit. After our dinner, we played some card games and headed to our nightly meeting where we discussed our day and passed the torch to the new Lideres del Dia. Overall we were able to connect more with the community and learn more about how to help others and meet their needs. Peace and love. XOXO gossip girl! AKA  Anna & Alicia.

I look forward to hearing about the progress of the aqueduct project, which will help so many households in the community. It will be a living legacy for the glimpsers that, in their younger years, they are able to make a difference in the lives of others that they will enjoy from generation to generation. Great job, and way to go, Jenee!
