Hi from Jarabacoa!
This is Ana and Connor as Leaders of the Day!!!!!
We started the day by waking up at 7:00 AM with loud claps and hard knocks at the doors. We had breakfast at 8:00 AM which was toast, fruit loops, and some pineapple and watermelon. Around 9-ish the bus came to bring us to the second site of our CAP. Once we got there we started mixing the cement with dirt/sand and water using shovels and pickaxes to mix. (we lost a pickaxe today! lol) Today we had a wheelbarrow in addition to some buckets to carry down to the house, which was much easier to walk down to the house than yesterday. Naldo, one of our in-country leaders, went on a motorcycle, his “taxi”, to go get us some 7 up and ice to drink. (Delicioso) We finished the house earlier than expected at 12-ish, the expected time was past 1:00. Muy rápido!
When we got back to the accommodation we had an hour of free time to shower off and relax after all that work. For lunch we had brown rice and beans, pork, salad, and tostones (smashed plantains). Since we had so much time from finishing the house early we were able to go into town for 2 hours, from 3pm until 5pm. Most people got smoothies to drink, some went to the supermarket, and others got a few souvenirs. When we got back to our meetup spot there were some local kids there playing. We put on a model show for them and they joined in. Christine rode their bike and showed off some tricks. After that we gave them snacks which made them really happy. One followed us on his bike when we had to leave the city and go back.
After a long day we came back and finalized the postcards for the sponsors of Global Glimpse. Dinner was served late but worth the wait because it was “Build your own” cheeseburgers with french fries. The line at dinner was chaotic because everyone wanted cheeseburgers. They destroyed the soda we had at dinner too. We needed a second bottle for everyone to get a cup. To finish the day off, at 8:30 it was time for the nightly meeting with the new leaders. Their talents were great and amazing + we learned some fun facts about some animals that made the whole room laugh.
Goodnight from Jarabacoa! – Ana and Connor
