Community Day! (No. 5)

So we started off the day at 6:00 AM and moved swiftly to breakfast. We had a traditional eggs and pancake breakfast which everyone enjoyed. After breakfast we went into a meeting prepping us for the big community day to come. We learned about the Monte Coca community and how we would soon help out the local families. Once we transported to the Batey the day truly started with a question section with Roberto to help us find out what the community needs and how we can help. We learned they mostly need help building up homes, latrines, and various public facilities. We then split off into groups to each home and each developed a lovely connection through doing the chores the families needed help with. Afterwards we all met up and engaged with the local kids through fun games and a group lunch. We all came away with a serge of motivation and empathy for these families as we transported back. We ended the day off with our nightly routine and special 4th of July cake and sparklers.
