Today, the Glimpsers continued their work on the Community Action Project (CAP)! Every Glimpser got to have insightful conversations with the members of the Monte Coca community. Glimpsers often reference names of the construction workers, such as Mickey, Kelvin, Junior, Motiv “Flaco”, etc. Many also had a lot of fun with the youth of Monte Coca. Throughout their breaks, they would often sit and play with them! After this amazing experience, our cohort has grown to be more open-minded and accepting of new cultures.
The day’s leaders, Metztli and Samantha, woke up the cohort at around 6:30 am. For breakfast, they had mashed potatoes with cheese, salami, and fruit! Shortly after, they left for Monte Coca, where one group finished the latrine while the other continued applying cement to the walls. At the end of the work day, before leaving, the group held a “Big Love” activity to show appreciation to the family and the construction workers. The group also left the construction workers a paper full of appreciation. Later in the day, the program coordinators led an activity in which everyone was able to do some reflecting on themselves, as well as a group, in terms of a community action project. The day ended with the second to last nightly meeting before heading home, introducing the new (and not-so-new) leaders, Stephanie and ZemZem!
