Today, we woke the whole group at 6:30 am. For breakfast, we had sunny-side-up eggs with tostones, watermelon, pineapple, and grapes. It was our second day of the Community Action Project (CAP) working at Monte Coca in the Dominican Republic. The work was similar to yesterday’s: mixing and applying concrete, which would be building materials for the home we are building for a family. Some good news is that we finished the restroom “latrine” today. We had rice with red beans, chicken, potato salad, watermelon, pineapple, and lemonade for lunch. After our lunch break, we returned to work on the house with our stomachs full and energized. Since the latrine was finished, our group assisted another group working on the house. The house group was able to work with the family for which the house was being built. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the locals and their community and learn about their culture. We wish all the best for the people of Monte Coca. We will continue to work hard tomorrow as it is our last day to work on our CAP project. While working on the house, we could only make one batch of cement together before being sent back to Ascala at 3:30 pm due to a change in schedule. However, we were able to share a drink of soda with our group as well as the workers who were guiding us. The real highlight of the day was seeing everyone smiling while bonding over hard work.
As usual, we were covered in concrete when we got back and spent the first hour back cleaning ourselves. Hygiene is essential to us as Global Glimpsers. As leaders, we empower our fellow Glimpsers to maintain healthy habits throughout their time under our care. Back at Ascala, the nuns spoiled us once again by making our burgers and fries to remind us of our home country, the U.S. After dinner, we had our nightly meeting where our excellent leadership brought a GGL to tears over how outstanding our performance was in her eyes (Christina). Thank you so much for taking the time to read our blog. We hope you continue to support our journey these next few days :D.
