Hi everyone! Today’s blog post is from Cami and Leo! We were the LDDs for today.
To start our day, we woke up at 7:00 am and took the bus to breakfast at La Bruja Cafe, where we enjoyed pancakes, scrambled eggs, and oat juice. from the cafe, we traveled to the school in Santa Ana, where we added the final touches to the recycling center. We then split into two groups to pick up trash and recycling on the side of the main road. Once our bags were filled to the brim, we took the bus back to the school and attended the project ceremony. influential people like the mayor, members from the Peace Corps, a representative from the partnered private recycling company, and more expressed their gratitude for all the work we did to build this center. We then thanked them for inviting us and for the opportunity to be part of something special to the community. After saying our farewells, we came back to the hotel at 12:30 pm and had rice, shredded meat, lentils, plantains, and guanabana juice for lunch. After we ate, we had our free time from 1:30 pm-3:00 pm where some glimpsers went out of the hotel, while some stayed back and rested. At 3:00 pm, we had our self-reflection, where all of us shared our experiences with the Community Action Project (CAP). Next, we all wrote letters of appreciation to different supporters of Global Glimpse. We had a short break after, which led right up to dinner at 6:00 pm. For dinner, we had vegetable soup, garlic bread, and pineapple juice. Once we said our thanks to our amazing cook, Angie, we began our nightly meeting. This consisted of our daily recap, wishes for the group, and what we learned throughout the last day of the CAP process.
During our CAP day 3, glimpsers were asked the question: “What have you learned about yourself in completing and executing the CAP Day 3 project?” They then discussed what they learned about themselves via the said process. Many of us described our growth in teamwork skills and how we connected to each other throughout this project. Furthermore, glimpsers discussed how they learned to reach out to others in order to accomplish what needed to get done.
The project meant a lot to us because we understood the lasting impact it would have on the community while we were not there. We loved seeing the kids’ enthusiasm for making a difference in their community and how special it was for them. The frequent applause and smiles across the crowd let us know that we really listened and took action on what the people needed.
