We started the day by visiting the greenhouse, where we got to pick weeds and bell peppers. During our time there we got to see the amount of detail required for picking the fruits because of the high standards in the US. We are all very shocked to see how although the workers did difficult jobs for long hours, they only got paid $9 a day. We then moved on to the Agro Marketing factory where we got to see the process of preparing cucumbers before they are sent to the US. It was eye-opening because it showed us just how many perfectly edible cucumbers were removed because of the slightest imperfections. Although there was work involved, everyone had a great time (everyone especially enjoyed the large amount of free cucumbers that we got to take). Seeing the whole process as a whole, we learned how and why it’s important to be a smart consumer. As the leaders of the day, we were very proud of how outgoing and supportive everyone was.
Breakfast: cereal and fruit
Lunch: rice and Sancocho
Dinner: hot dogs

Every cucumber matters! ?

Wow! $9 will not even cover some people’s daily Starbucks intake. I hope everyone sees money and spending a little different after today! Thank you for sharing, dynamic duo! Can’t wait for the next story!
