We all scream for ice cream!!!

“In a time of destruction, create something.” – Maxine Hong Kingston.

Last night, three new bombshells, Dorka, Cailin, and Emily entered the villa.

Chuga-chuga-CHOO-CHOO!!

Over the last couple of days, plans have been scratched (as well as 8 balls), water has been lost, ideas have been shared, and the Glimpsers have stayed positive through it all.

We’ve dealt with torrential downpours that have canceled all three of our Community Action Plan days. To cope, we have been trying to do fun activities each day to learn more about ourselves and leadership. Today was the first sunny day, and although it wasn’t raining, the puddles and damage from the rain kept us from working on our project.

But don’t you worry! Group T3D created a fun day that mixed tourism with relaxation at home.

Dorka, Emily, and Cailin, Day 8’s LDDs, at the Museum at the University of Costa Rica.

We started the day at the Museum at the University of Costa Rica. We learned all about the first ancient tribe to inhabit the Guayabo National Monument. We saw stone carvings and other ancient artifacts from over 3000 years ago. Our PC Memo shared the history of this civilization. We learned they had an advanced caste system: the chief was at the top, followed by the shaman, then warriors, and finally everyone else. It is also thought that they had sacrificial ceremonies; normally, a lower-class citizen or captured prisoner was sacrificed for spiritual purposes.

While Ancient Rome is widely credited for the invention of the aqueduct, archaeologists traced the Guayabo National Monument’s aqueduct to the same time. As high school students, we haven’t been taught how advanced life in ancient Central America was. However, this experience has widened our perspective and taught us that there is more to learn than what NYC public school teaches us.

After the museum, we played some basketball at the University’s court. We saw our GGL Rob try his best to keep up with the kids!

We also got to see the Northern Railroad outside the UCR Atlantic Sede that honors the region’s 19th-century railroad heritage.

Then we headed into town to get ICE CREAMMMMM!! It was a great way to end our time in the town and cool off from the heat. From Dulce de leche to mint chocolate chip, everyone got a little something as a sweet treat.

Nothing but net 🙂
