Day four–our first day of the CAP project, written by yours truly, Ivan and Mia! We woke up to a delicious breakfast, like always, with pancakes, scrambled eggs with veggies, and a choice of banana or pineapple. Thank you, Ilka and co! Then, we dressed in our best clothing to meet with the speakers of Eco Azuero to begin to learn about deforestation in Panama and our part in restoring the ecological corridor in the country. Our Glimpsers were actively engaged with the lesson and are excited to start our mission by cleaning up the beach tomorrow!

And on the way back, we saw some cattle drivers on the road.

Lunch was rice with chicken, fried plantains, and salad. We made calls home after that–you might remember! And for those who couldn’t get in contact, don’t worry. Be on the lookout for a second call!
During our time shopping in the town, we saw a parade with music, white flowers, and frequent fireworks. Our PC, Azalia, told us the history of the town and a church we stopped in: apparently, the crew of a ship was saved from being drowned by pirates by the patron saint Librada, and some of the first houses that were built after the shipwreck were made from the wood from the boat, hence the name “Las Tablas,” meaning tables or planks.

We also met a pair of Panamanians wearing cultural garb, and they kindly agreed to take photos with us.

We got ice cream at our favorite bakery, La Paulina. The taste was as great as the first time we visited. We went back to the hotel and had dinner, which consisted of steak, potatoes, and salad. To end the day, we tried on some traditional Panamanian dresses made by our lovely cook, Ilka, and her mother.

Despite the drastic schedule changes, our Glimpsers held it together and managed to warmly greet our new Liders del Dia–Sacario and Cole.
Did you know Panama is a carbon negative country? What are some things you know about carbon emissions? What are some ways you have contributed to sustainability in your community?
With Big Love from Ivan and Mia, we hope you enjoyed reading our blog!
P.S. Mom, tell Mouse I miss him, from Ivan.
