Hello friends and family, its Arianna Bautista Santiago, Kailey Dillon, and Gerardo Castro. Today we started CAP(Community action Project) day 1 and celebrated Serina’s 18th birthday in which we started off by gifting her a birthday card signed by the whole delegation. We sang happy birthday and started off breakfast with the birthday girl being served first. We had to rush a bit during breakfast in order to have everyone fed and ready for the bus ride to our CAP location by 8:45 am. Our CAP project is to beautify a school which will teach the younger generations here in Jarabacoa how to respect the environment and spread natural ways to grow and maintain agriculture to their parents. We work with a group called plan Yaque, whos main objective is to protect and preserve a clean water system for communities who live along the river Yaque.

Today we started the beginning stages of building a fence around the schools garden. We sanded and painted the crayon shaped wood planks that would be used for the fence. Dylan, Santiago, William, and kids from the community worked hard to dig holes in the garden to build the foundation of the fence.

Jordan used her creativity and talent to create a mural in the preschool section in the school. It only took her around an hour to make significant progress which really surprised everyone!

We worked hard and collaborated to make the most of our 5 1/2 hours and completed the fundamental pieces required to build the fence. After a long day of work we were rewarded with an ice cream stop on the way back to La Salle.

We did more bonding activities followed by dinner and a short celebration for Serinas birthday.

We wrote appreciation letters to the supports of Global Glimpse to show our appreciation and the effect the program has had on our lives. We finished off our night with more team bonding by having a karaoke night ( as request by Heriberto). This activity marked the end of our day and a good start to the next day of CAP tomorrow.

Ariannas note to family
Hello family, I hope that you guys don’t miss me that much because I’m not coming back, JK. I am having a great time here especially since I have come out of my comfort zone and was able to make friends here and get close to my roommate, Lydia, and another friend, Angela. So far my favorite activity was learning how to dance Bachata and Salsa and dancing Huapangos and cumbias with partners before going to bed. I’ve been writing in my journal about my day in detail so I can’t wait to tell you about my days here!
Peace
Arianna
Hello family, I hope you all are doing great! Im doing great, having an amazing time by learning about new things, and trying new things. Ive been able to make friends and have an amazing time. Having meaningful conversations with people of other cultures has so far been my favorite thing, since i’ve learned about many different perspectives of life, and learned about other beliefs, that were opposite to mine. I can’t wait to tell you about my amazing trip!
Best,
Gerardo C
Hi family! I just want to say thank you to everyone who encouraged me to come on this trip and helped me get to this point. I couldn’t have gained this beautiful experience if it hadn’t been for your help and donations as well to help my parents better get me here. Thank you to my inner circle for reassuring me that just beyond my comfort zone is a world full of new experiences and growth that I definitely needed and cant wait to share with you all. I love you and miss you. See you soon.
