DAY 4- cap seminar 2 & Cultural exchange prep

Buenas Noches! Today, Luis Muñoz-González and I were bestowed the opportunity to be the Leaders Del Dia! During this incredible journey, we were able to assist our peers as we took our first steps into engaging with the local community here in Turrialba. Many glimpsers awoke much earlier than our formal 630 wake up time to fellowship with their peers through a group workout or to swim in the beautiful pool that we’re lucky enough to have right out our front door. Following that, we indulged in a deliciously filling traditional Costa Rican breakfast comprising of Pinto (rice with beans), huevos (I know my family would be especially happy about this part) , mango, pineapple, accompanied by natural jugos de fruta! After that we engaged in preparation for the cultural exchange we’ll be having Monday at a local elementary school! We were then able to take the bus into town and exchange our money for Costa Rican Colones. Glimpsers were able to buy from local businesses at the park as they were having a enterpreneural fair! And many practiced their Spanish as they chatted with locals and bought souvenirs for the ones back home, jerseys in honor of the cup, and finally (my favorite) ice cream and boba from a local business. Overall, today’s glimpsers had a morning and early afternoon of good eats, experiencial learning, and fun! And for my family if they see this:Los queiro y los estraño todos muchismo! Hola Ma y Pa espero que este mensaje los encuentra bien y que no han olvidado del tesoro que ya no tienen en la casa. Los extrano mucho y espero que estan al cien. Today was my first time experiencing Costa Rica at a local level, I was blessed with the opportunity to connect with the locals in town. On the bus ride to the downtown area of Turrialba I had a lovely conversation with a mother and son who are involved with a program similar to that of Global Glimpse. Durning this conversation the mother explained to me how her son is involved in a program were students from schools located in the United States travel and stay in local towns in Costa Rica with the intent of contributing to their lives in anyway they could as many of the participants in this program live with disabilities. My connections with the locals continued into the center of Turrialba, were locals were celebrating a 3 day Father’s Day Fair. Here I had the chance to contribute to local vendors who struggle with the overload of a growing tourism. Overall I received nothing but generosity and love by the locals and I am blessed to be welcomed with open arms here in Turrialba, Costa Rica.- Luis Muñoz-González.
