Working like a local 7/13/24

Dear Parents

Today was very fun and impactful for me and the other Glimpsers, because we were able to know what its was like to work like a local. It was also the topic for today that inspired us to do things we haven’t done before. I was the leader of the day, and in the beginning, I was very nervous and not confident about my skills as LDD. But thanks to the other students and staff I was able to come out of my shell and lead. The quote of the day was, “Once in your life, you may need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher but every day you will need a farmer” by Brenda Schapp. This quote made me realize a lot about how important farmers are.

Schedule of today’s activities:

Morning

  • 6:15 We wake up and get ready for the day ahead of us
  • 7:00 We have an amazing breakfast to start off the day
  • 7:45 We have a health check-in to make sure everyone is doing great
  • 8:00-8:15 We head over to Finca El Espinal
  • 9:45-10:00 We had a snack time to re-charge our energy

Our morning outing was to a goat farm named Finca El Espinal. We got to feed and hold baby and adult goats, plant seeds that would become trees for the goats, and overall experience something new and educational. The things that made this experience great were I got to feed and hold a goat for the first time and it was super fun. We also ate some ice cream that was made from the goats’ milk that tasted great.

Afternoon

  • 11:30-12:00 We returned to the hotel and ate lunch
  • 1:00-4:00 Free time
  • 4:45-5:00 We had a self-reflection
  • 5:00-6:00 dinner
  • 7:00 nightly meeting
  • 8:00-10:30 free time then lights out

During free time we went to this small but great baked goods store and had some amazing milkshakes, grilled cheese, and sweets. We also went to a local grocery store. Shopping in a different country is a little overwhelming but it was a necessary experience. There was also a surprise dinner at a BBQ! In all today ended up being way more than I expected.

Jacob – What an experience!!! It seems so easy getting food here but your experience of what the farmers go through probably gave many of you a whole different appreciation versus just ordering food through Uber Eats!!! Great pictures and love the animals in the group shot! Thank you for sharing!!!
