Hello Everyone, It’s your leaders for Day 9 CAP Day 3 Akemi and Andrea. To start off Day 9 Andrea and I did the annual wake up call at 7:00 AM an hour before breakfast. We tried to wake up the boys first which was very difficult, so we got the help from our GG leader to bang on their windows and eventually woke them up. It was a bit of a struggle. Moving forward we woke up all the girls without any difficulty and proceeded on with the morning. I (Akemi) made the table for breakfast by dishing out plates and napkins to make breakfast go by smoothly and quickly for the hardworking day we have ahead of us (CAP Day 3). For breakfast we had pancakes, eggs, Dominican salami, and fruits with tamarind juice. It was amazing, thank you to our beautiful cooks. After breakfast Andrea and I rounded up everyone and made our way to our CAP destination.
For our Day 3 Community Action Project, collectively we all helped Yubelkis, who was picked by the Global Glimpse organization to build a floor for her and her family to be accessible to a kitchen and a parking area for their motorcycles. Prior to our help Yubelkis did not have a floor nor a kitchen area to cook which led to her to have the only option of cooking outside for her and her family. Around 9:00 we arrived, and were introduced to Yubelkis and her family with a peaceful and thankful greeting for us willing to help her with the situation out of empathy without anything in return. To start off with our help we shoveled dirt and sand and mixed it with cement and water to make the base for her floor. As a team we took turns shoveling the sand and dirt, later mixing it and then passing it in heavy buckets to dump on the floor as paste. With the help of her family they indulged in the process providing more helping hands for us to get the job done. We alternated within our three groups and worked from 9:00am to 12:00pm where at 12:00 we left to have lunch at 12:30pm to return back around 2:00pm to finish the rest of the work. We were half way finished with the floor before we left for lunch. In between those 3 hours Yubelis treated us with ham and cheese rolls with soda as a lovely gesture and a thank you for our collective hard work.
Upon our return we finished the remainder of our work in an hour, leaving the final product of a kitchen and an area for motorbikes. We finished our work collectively and took a group photo with Yubelkis and her family as a thank you for her letting us have the opportunity to work on her house. We are very thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life without expecting anything in return. In addition to being the cause of a positive impact in someone’s life as well. Within the experience we will take what we’ve learned and put it into our everyday lives and take that drive to make a positive change into our own communities.
