Day: 4 Community Day

My name is Aiden and I’m going to talk about some of the things we did today, but before I do I’d like to shoutout to my teachers and Ms. Yoshi. What me and my peers learned was that in the Dominican Republic the communities are very hard working and try to put effort into making us feel at home. What surprised me the most today was that we were split up into groups and did work such as, moping, sweeping, and collecting the dirt and garbage. I’m proud of my peers and us(leaders of the day) because we were very open minded and gave an effort to communicate with the locals. The most inspiring person I met today was the leader of the little community because she started a community from nothing to something putting years of hard work into the houses and community. Something I learned about myself is that I’m a hard working person and open minded respecting other people cultures.

Hello my name is Jose and I’m going to describe how the day went for us Glimpsers. Today we spent the day at “Sonido Del Yoque” where we spent some time with community that lives there to experience their day to day lives. I’m really proud of my peers today for the way that we all were able to connect and share a bond with not only each other, but with the people living there as well. I really enjoyed being a leader, it was definitely a lot more responsibility than usual, especially with having to make sure everyone is staying safe and is feeling included. Overall, today was definitely one of the best days so far and I can’t wait to see the fun that awaits us tomorrow.

Hello my name is Tino, today we experienced a day in a life of a small community in Jarabacoa. We met this lady named Esperanza and she told us about how she had to go out and look for resources to help her community due to the lack of medical care and supplies. She reminded me a lot of my mom. She explained how she helped her community grow and and it taught my peers and I how much courage and perseverance it takes to grow a community for not only your family but generations. Overall, it was really amazing seeing how much effort people make to help generations of families strive and keep getting better. In conclusion, it takes a lot of ambition to want to grow a community from nothing.
