DAY 3. CULTURE!

Heyyy, friends and family! Today was a busy day for us. Our daily focus was on culture, and how we can preserve it. Today we woke up at 6 AM with a wake up call and we were up and ready to go at seven to the Panaderia de la Mela Rosa at a bakery where we ate local breakfast of Panama, met the owner, Orlando and his wife Yamilet, we saw their livelihood and how he has preserved culture. His biggest advice was to never look back, even though there are struggles and regrets. He taught us to preserve culture by bread making using his traditional methods. He also showed us how his business works by allowing us to make bread and strengthen our friendships. He showed us how hard pays off using his sugarcane machine as a metaphor, we enjoyed time with Orlando and his family.

Our next stop is at taller de artesanias de Lucrecio Batista, which was at ten A.M. Together as a group, we learned to preserve culture with pottery making. We were able to give a creative touch to it by using his pottery making as a symbol of culture and our creativity helped us. We decorated our own pottery to remind us of Don Lucrecio teachings. Don Lucrecio showed us culture through his family and let us try his way of making pottery on a wheel. His family’s story was touching and we as a whole group learned how to persevere culture.

After we had lunch back at the hotel and it gave us time to strength our relationships. With that we entered a seminar talking about sustainable development to use it for the next days project as a group we explored Chitré and stopped at a local ice cream/bakery where we all enjoyed delicious treats. Coming back as a group to enjoy dinner. Spaghetti!

We ended the day with a nightly meeting Kimberly and Addi (us) passed the touch to the next LDD’s Daisy, Jacklin, Maria

PS: We are making phone calls tomorrow so be prepared! Happy Father’s Day to everyone!!!!
