Hai from Jarabacoa!
This is Troyina and Michelle writing to you!
We started the day off yet again at 7:00 am with an EXTREMELY loud wake up call. Afterwards we had breakfast and prepared ourselves for our final CAP day. Everyone was still a little sleepy when we got to the community but they powered through the lethargy and got to work. Arturo, the cement specialist on site, taught the group a more efficient way to mix cement, by flattening the cement on top of the sand and digging trenches into the pile for water to fill in. Mixing with the pickaxes made the job a lot easier and the shovels played a vital role in ensuring that the water did not leak out of the sides. On the job we learned a couple new and hip grooves that we dubbed, “The Bucket Pass®,” “The Pickaxe®” and “The Shovel®.” We finished the job ahead of schedule as per usual, and we had the rest of the afternoon free.
After lunch and some brief downtime, our leaders ensured that we had a fun activity ahead of us in exchange for our hard work. We had two secret water activities; The first one was a WATERFALL! On the safari ride toward the waterfall, a section of the group began singing “99 Bottle of Beer on the Wall” and they were able to get all the way down to 18 bottles of beer before we arrived at our destination. After traversing the numerous rickety suspension bridges 8 people at a time, we gazed upon the glory of the flowing agua >:). It was an exhilarating experience for us all. Unfortunately for us, our second secret water activity was brewing in the atmosphere. While listening to the intermittent claps of thunder, we walked down to the part of the stream that we could actually swim in. We could only stay for 10 minutes as the storm was creeping over us. The rain was heavy but we ran heavier!!!!!! Everyone was drenched as we filed into the bus, except for me, Troyina, as I brought my umbrella (Troyina is an opp – Michelle) and learning from previous experience everyone avoided the front seats so as to not be further pelted by harsh raindrops at terminal velocity. We also picked up a couple “drenched locals” – (Quote by Mysterious Airy) and helped them get back to the parking lot.
On the ride back home, the previous group of singers continued their “99 Bottle of Beer on the Wall” song and Mysterious Airy made an important announcement about the Dominican Republic’s BAN!!!!! on the singing of that song. The group quickly shifted gears to a wonderful rendition of the Hamilton song but it was halted by the spotting of a caballero riding a horse down the street in pouring rain. We got home, fought for the showers (some had a shower during the blackout ((couldn’t be me tho – Troyina #warmshower #firstonein # ))) and had SCRUMPTIOUS tacos for dinner. We also had a fun activity to appreciate everyone which we are sure that the leaders found very heartwarming.
That’s all from us! We are sure you’ll love the update from the leaders of tomorrow <3
P.S.
