Hello families!!!!! Our names are Lincoln and Noelia and we were leaders of the day today. We started off our day with having to wake up everyone at 7 am and we ate breakfast at 7:45 am. Before actually eating breakfast we sang Happy Birthday to one of our peers (David, who turned 17). We ate bread, eggs, cheese, and fruit thanks to our lovely cooks Ladie y Mikella. We got on the guagua/bus at 8:30 am and went to Monte Coca.
We divided into different CAP (Community Action Project) groups and we each worked on separate casas. The first CAP group with bubbly guts went to a casa with a bathroom where they made cement, paved walls, and cleaned up the equipment. The second CAP group also made cement, sawed metal beams as support, passed buckets of cement to the local workers, and cleaned up the equipment. While working each CAP group made sure that everyone was safe, drank lots of water, and took breaks. At 12 PM we had lunch at the main building in Monte Coca and we ate rice, chicken, potato salad, fruit, and fried yuca (delicioso).
After lunch, most people were tired and got back to work at 1:30 PM and worked until 3:30 pm where we drove back to the ranch. We showered and had free time until dinner at 7 pm where we ate tacos, fruit, and rice. After dinner, we sang “las manañitas” to David and ate cake. Then we had our nightly meeting and were able to pass the torch to our new leaders of the day (Nila and Aminah).
Thank you so much for reading our blog. We have 3 nights here left in the Dominican Republic and we can’t wait to see our families again. Love from Noelia and Lincoln
