CAP 1 (getting down and dirty)

HOLAAAA!!!!!! It’s Gen and Jess here writing today’s blog!!!!!

Today was day one of our CAP project! AKA Community Action Project! Which for us, is helping families move into their new homes with brand-new floors. The day started bright and early with us waking up at 7 AM and having everyone come down for breakfast at 8 AM sharp. This morning, the kitchen presented us with a yummy ham and cheese sandwich to fuel us for a hard day ahead. Although the day started with rain, to pass the time, we started an activity with everyone where we had to make a map of the most important moments in our lives. After this, we managed to adjust our schedule to arrive at the CAP site around 10:30 AM. We worked with everyone in this community to mix the bags of cement together in order to help the workers finish Ana’s floor. After we got the hang of mixing the cement, we started an assembly line in order to make the process of pouring cement quicker and more efficient. This assembly line was a line of everyone in our group passing buckets full of cement to the house and passing the empty buckets back.

We did this from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM to make it back in time for lunch and go back to the CAP site at 2 PM. As soon as we got to the CAP site we got straight to work, this time passing buckets of sand from the house to the cement mixing area. We had a couple of kids from the community help us and they were so helpful hope to see them tomorrow. After we completed this, we split the group into 2 and started adding dirt in the house to level out the area. Unfortunately, it started raining again so we had to cut our work short (again) and we left the CAP site at 4 PM and made it back to Dilenia’s at 4:30 PM.

Everyone had an hour to freshen up just in time for our program seminar. During this program seminar, we wrote letters of appreciation to our Global Glimpse supporters, each personally handwritten by each glimpser. After that, we had a yummy dinner which consisted of mashed potatoes, fried eggs, salami, and corn on the cob. After dinner, we had a big surprise for the group and we went to the GROCERY STORE!!!!! This is where we all got our snacks and drinks to enjoy for the next couple of days we have left here, plus we all got ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!(You scream, I scream, We all scream for ICE CREAM!!!!…..Quite literally.) We then had our regular nightly meeting where we all shared our thoughts and big love for the day. Wanna know a secret?….our unity chant….. WASSSSSSS……CEMENTO!!!!!! Ironic right? We also passed the torch to our new leaders of the day….. GERSON (again..) andddd FATIMA!!!!!!!!!!! ANYWAYS…. Our day of telling people what to do is over.
