Day 9: CAP Day 3

Hi ! 🙂 To begin our day, we woke up bright and early at 6:30 AM SHARP. After a groggy wakeup call, we headed to breakfast at 7:30 AM. Our cook Diego, who knows his way around the kitchen, made gallo pinto, huevos, y pan! After this meal, we prepared for our long walk (20 minutes) to our CAP site at the soccer field. Today, with the perseverance of every single person, we finished painting the walls of the locker room, and scraped the moss off the stairs. We also painted a bench and raked the soccer field.

Moving into noon, Diego once again made a delicious lunch: arroz con pollo, ensalada, y frijoles. After we ate our lunch, we started heading towards the elementary school to continue our CAP further. At the school, we picked moss off the rocks, rigorously scrubbed the floors, and wiped the walls down until 4 PM. Doing this CAP project as the “Leaders Of The Day” was nerve-wracking and challenging at first. However, as the day progressed we found new and efficient ways to get things done. For example, we split the groups up by numbers rather than asking for volunteers. From all 3 of us, we learned the importance of making sure our voices were heard, which is a quality we will carry with us as we transition to adulthood! 😀

Finally, we finished our work at the school, and we (including our dog, BOGI) headed back home. After that, our delegation had some downtime. This included our daily bookclub chats, uno card playing, and casual conversations around the table.

To end the day, we had dinner which was a DELICIOUS nacho plate. Following dinner, we had our nightly meeting. Tonight, we had a deep reflection on our CAP project and the values we will take away from our experience. We learned a lot about each other’s perspectives before and after our CAP. Such as not realizing how much we really take for granted and waste in our daily routines. To wrap up the meeting, we passed our leadership role over to Jane, Alianna, and Hasfa. To conclude, we prepped for the next day and we are both sad and excited to go home. See you there! <3
