HEYEYEYYEYEY! It’s Jonathan, Anjali, & Kylie reporting for LDD duty!

Today was day one of our Community Action Project (CAP)! Quite the exciting day, for many reasons. First, we had our daily wakeup call at 6:50 am. It was an interesting experience to say the least! I mean you try waking up tired teenagers at 6AM. Breakfast was at 7:30. Big kudos to the AMAZING chefs of Hotel Rex, who have been waking up early everyday so we can have breakfast and be energized for the work ahead our CAP day will bring. Our CAP journey started on the bus with lots of loud karaoke. We sang our way to the hardware store where we picked up a variety of supplies for our CAP projects. To keep things efficient, we created a list of supplies in advance and appointed four people to go into the store and execute the plan: Diigant, Julianna, Anjali, and Jonathan. Shoutout to them for staying within budget! We then headed to the Santa Ana Escuela (see what we did there!). Vamanos! Upon arriving Anjali so graciously led the Glimpsers in a stretch circle to energize us and get us ready for the long day ahead.

We presented our CAP plan to Maestro Carlos. He accepted our plan for the garden and basketball court restoration with open arms.

Many people were eager to work on the basketball court, but we split up to ensure the garden project had enough hands, besides, only one person could be on the ladder at a time. We began by sanding the rust off of the backboard. As the need for the garden grew Masiela and Sam kept the passion for the basketball court renovations alive by continuing to clean, sand, and paint the backboard. Maestro Carlos and Señor Efrain carried by stepping in and gently letting us know we did not know what we were doing.

Although the work in the sun was tough and strenuous the group’s motivation and passion remained strong. Encouragement was always present among not only the leaders of the day but all of the Glimpsers together.
Hellooo, this is Kylie. I had an amazing day being a leader and helping to encourage my fellow Glimpsers.
Hola, me llamo Jonathan.
Hello! I’m Anjali. Being leader of the day was an impactful challenge. I was grateful for the advice from previous LDDs, particularly my roommate Catherine who sat up with me and spoke about her experience, preparing me for the busy day ahead.
Next up we have Franklin, Diigant & Valentin! Help us wish them luck on CAP Day 2✨
