Day 12- Last Day of Community Action Project

What’s up everyone! This is Anthony and Parris. (The best duo… if we do say so ourselves)

Today was the last day of CAP Day 3!!! Our goal was to finish the skate park for the community. We weren’t able to finish due to heavy rain and lack of time allotted to us. Even though we did not finish, being a leader taught us many things. Being a leader showed us how to operate as a team and how to work together on something bigger than ourselves. As leaders of the day, we learned how to communicate effectively with each other and with our team. We were able to lead by example, as well as being vocal. We believe we are leaders every day, but we exemplified it fully today. Even though we all were tired from three days of work, we were able to rally the troops for our last day of the project. Individually, we could never do all the work the skate park needed, but through communication and organization, we were able to renovate most of the skate park. We were able to finish everything that we set out to do in CAP Day 1. Unfortunately, we are leaving soon, but our community action project day showed us that we are able to work as one. Our project brought us together and helped us see and understand the joy of giving back to others. We gave back by planting trees and other plants/flowers. We helped design the park. We mixed and made cement, and then poured it into the base of our designated stations. We helped make seating sections for the park. We cleaned the skate park and painted murals. We did a lot within these past few days, but we felt that we wanted to do so much more. It was good to give back to others in some way, shape or form. We enjoyed getting to know the community and bonding with them. We hope that the community can enjoy this space. It was great to work with our skate park architect Melissa, and many of the community members. Thank you for the opportunity!

Our Quote of the day was:

“In a time of destruction, create something.”- Maxine Hong Kingston

Below you can see examples of our hard work and what our group was able to help create. Our team was great! It was fun, it was tiring, but it was worth it! Thank you to everyone who made this project a success.

Now let’s give it up to our next leaders of the day, Caitlin and Adella!!!!!
