COMMUNITY DAY in bohios- Taleeb & Leticia’s GG Blog

Welcome- it’s your Leaders of the Day, Leticia and Taleeb!

Today we learned many things, an example being how chocolate and coffee are made naturally in Dominican culture. We also connected with the culture by learning native Dominican dances like Bachata, Merengue, and Salsa. This was enjoyed and loved by the whole group; we all really appreciated the direct first hand experiences passed on to us. I was surprised by my group’s willingness to work together throughout the day. Me and my group got together for every activity and thrived in it. We helped each other learn and experience, which gives us excitement to face the next activity together. I am very proud of how comfortable my new family is with each other and how close we all are. I hope we continue to develop strong relationships. At Bohios Campo, our host Eunice left us with a final message that culture is very important and to put effort in all you do. She said, “if you visit a country and you don’t enjoy the gastronomy and music… you didn’t come”. This was reflected in today’s Culture Day, from drinking authentic hot chocolate to dancing Bachata and following the counts. Her wise words encouraged all of us to branch out and explore different cultural experiences. Being Leader of the day gave us an opportunity to really vocalize and practice our leadership skills and ensure that everyone was given the chance to be present. I learned that I can try new things and excel. Today was a great day and it can only get better, down to the car rides where we all sang, all the way to trying new foods and delicacies. That’s it for the blog; it’s goodbye for now, but not for long!
