Cap Day 2

Day 7

Que sopa Global Glimpse community!! We are the day 7 LDDs (the best ones): Emere, Reggie and Alex. We have been waiting for this day since the start of the trip. We even got matching teal bandanas, whistles and planned out the whole day during meals (sorry Daphne and Izzy for having to listen along). First, we started off with the wakeup call. Usually, people just knock on the door … buttttttt we did things a little bit differently ;). A couple of days ago we bought some water guns, such as a Fortnite water-gun from the knockoff Walmart and were prepared to use them if necessary. We woke everybody up with three cameras in their face, one recording, one taking flash photography, the other taking print-out photos, and loud knocks that could be heard down the hall. Don’t worry, nobody was injured in the process!

After a delicious breakfast consisting of fried eggs and yuka, we took the bus to Santa Maria to continue the CAP projects. We first started off with an energizer by leading various stretches needed for a long day of work. Everyone was eager to start their CAP projects including the local students. Everywhere you looked was a smiling face. Everywhere you stepped there was passion. A few groups continued their jobs from yesterday like the compost and irrigation system while others started new projects such as creating a gravel pathway and painting the wall in the nursery. We also prioritized keeping everyone hydrated!

Eventually when we had lunch, we all decided as a group to continue working on the CAP project. We were so passionate about it that we skipped the energizer/game after our scrumptious meal. We finished off mixing the compost, utilizing the substrate for future use, painting the mural, and finishing the overhead water irrigation. While we were working, we constantly interacted with the students. This was the perfect time for some of us to practice our Spanish, exchange Instagrams and take lots of photos together (they’re all on Reggie’s camera so unfortunately, they couldn’t be uploaded to the blog). After showing responsible leadership skills in how we grabbed the attention of our fellow glimpsers, Kenia blessed us with the trip to the magnificent, mesmerizing, mouth-watering, tear-dropping, not so all-American DAIRY QUEEN!!!!!(6-7)!!!!!!! Once we returned to the hotel, we had the luxury to wash our stinky clothes (we will never take laundry for granted ever again).

To wrap this blog up, we just wanted to reflect on what we learned during this process. I think we can speak for all the glimpsers when we say that this experience has changed our mindset in having a more open mind, taking initiative and helping others even if the results may not directly benefit ourselves. We will take our new mentality with us in our normal lives to not only create a more successful future for us but especially for those around us and the future. Although the work is challenging, it is definitely rewarding, and we will forever be grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to all the people involved in making this happen like the parents helping support all of the glimpsers and Kate (the Peace Corps officer) making the CAP project run smoothly. Muchas Gracias!!!!!!!

I absolutely adore this!!! A natural born leader is what you are Emere!! So glad to see you making a mark in the world. You will never forget this experience—ever!! I LOVE the bandana idea!! Super cool! You guys look amazing and I know it was funny waking everyone up with a camera in their face, I can’t wait until you post those photos, I’m pretty sure your peers weren’t all that thrilled but when they look back on it , they will die with laughter and good memories. Keep shinning, keep growing, keep leading, and have fun while you’re doing it!!! Love you muchas gracias!!

Hi Reg, how wonderful to hear how much you (and your entire Glimpsers) have accomplished; and how much fun and excitement you all have had while simultaneously helping out a community.
Take pictures of yourselves among the projects that you and your team have completed such as the newly planted trees, the beautifully painted walls and other items, as well as the nursery.

Someday, years from now, perhaps you can return and see the people you’ve interacted with and how much the trees have grown. The walls and surrounding areas may have already been repainted and the nursery repurposed but it would be a fun visit.

Best wishes to all of you in your future endeavors. May these personal interactions and experiences stay with you forever and guide you in becoming a well-fulfilled, confident and strong adults whose outlook in life is geared towards helping the many communities that surround you.
Congratulations Glimpsers!

Reggie: we’re very happy for you in being part of such a fantastic community-building program. I’m confident that you will apply all what you learned and experienced in your future life ahead (including all the Spanish words you learned). Missing you very much! We’ll see you soon. Can’t wait to hear about all the fun and projects you’ve had. Love always!!!
