Day 13 “CLOSING REFLECTION”

Today was community day! We woke up bright and early at 6 am and had breakfast before heading out to work with the community in Sonido del Yaque and help the locals out with chores in separate groups. We also had time to explore the beautiful sights they had. like the river and mountains, and we were welcomed with open arms by the community. We had the opportunity to connect with the people during our bonding activities, especially the kids whose faces we painted. It got messy with creative works of art, as they also painted our faces while we talked with them.

As it came to an end, we headed back to our hostel to prepare and get ready for our CAP presentations with the community leaders from Las Cenizas de Hatillo. We explained our 3-day plan for our project to bring water to the 17 local families’ homes. We ended our day with hamburgers for dinner and our nightly meeting with self-reflection, along with a small game of volleyball.
We found the community to be really heartwarming as Leaders of the Day, and people who we could really connect with by listening to their stories as well as sharing our own. We were proud of our peers for their posters and the time they spent forming plans about the upcoming CAP (Community Action Project) and what it means to them and their families. While being leaders of the day was fun and gave us a new perspective on things and what it means to be a leader, there are still things we have to work on, and will continue to grow as leaders and people.
PS: I’m doing good over here. It is very fun and I am making friends. I love all the sites we get to see. I can’t wait to get home and see everybody and share my experiences with you guys. I can’t wait to get home and sleep in my bed. Los quiero mucho y extranyo a todos. (The mosquitoes really love me LOL) – Brisa Reyes.
PS: I GOT MY LUGGAGE! SLAY!! I was able to wear one of my outfits now that I packed which I really like. I’m running on 5-6 hours of sleep, and I’m still hyper as I’m writing this! Aren’t you proud? :)) Anyway, I’ll see you guys soon; don’t miss me too much. :3 Also I got Skylar a little present so far and got a new bracelet to add to my collection! – Camila Carter :3
