Day 13 “CLOSING REFLECTION”

Good evening parents, families, and friends,
Today we had immigration day, we traveled from Constanza to Juan Dolio to learn about the ongoing issues surrounding Haitian immigrants in the DR. We visited the ASCALA organization and learned about the struggles Haitians go through in the DR. After we visited a sugar cane plantation, where Haitian communities work for minimum wage. Today was a very educating day and it changed our perspectives and the way we view the world. On our way home our group shared quite the bonding moment!! We all made up a little song and had lots of giggles. However true fun came to light when we returned to the base house in Juan Dolio and all got into the pool. Ms.Hinchman who sadly was not with us was truly missed!!! But overall the day was very educating and even more fun!! We get closer as a group every day!!

Wonderful, Estela doesn’t know that as a child I used to go every weekend to a family house in Juan Dolió, I have so many beautiful memories and glad the group gets to experience nature and social issues from a different perspective. Miss you Estela.

Sounds like an interesting day in the sugar cane fields and looks like everyone had such a great time, especially on the bus & in the pool! Night swimming is always fun. Awesomeness, to finally get to see you guys and it’s a warm hearted pleasure to know that all are adapting to adjust and thanks to the staff for being intuitively attentive with keeping the teenagers “Us parents kids” safe and loved. Especially for my son Elijahblou. I was fretful at first but I had to become comfortable with the uncomfortableness of letting him go, knowing this is your first time without your family away in a different country. Although you seem to be enjoying yourself bud, my champ and my hero. Stay vigilant. I miss you bunches. Can’t wait to see you in the physical. I love you. Dad!
